Application form results!
A month ago, Prism Party began accepting applications for staff as part of its yearly review window. Around the same time, we started collecting opinions on a "soft reset" for the Survival server.
As of today, both applications are now closed and we're ready to review the results. While we won't be announcing changes to the staff team yet (we're still reviewing all the applications!), we're ready to discuss the results of the Soft Reset Form.
What is a soft reset?
A soft reset will involve three major changes: the introduction of a new, custom-generated world acting as the primary survival overworld, transitioning the current overworld into its own dimension, and resetting the Nether, End, and Rift dimensions.
The current overworld will become its own dimension. Meaning, it will remain accessible to all players through a portal at Spawn (similar to the Nether, End, and Rift dimensions). All features and players’ current inventory will stay the same in this dimension. While players can continue building here if they choose, it will no longer be the default world upon joining the server. Instead, players will now enter the new custom-generated world by default.
In the new, custom-generated overworld, players will start with a fresh inventory. This inventory will be shared across the new Nether, End, and Rift dimensions. Items cannot be transferred from the “old” overworld dimension into the new worlds, or vice-versa.
Ultimately, we wish to address concerns from players who have become bored of the current Survival world, without taking away from players who still have active projects.
Soft reset form results
When creating the form, we asked players to rate how interested they were with the idea of a soft reset, as described above. 60% of players expressed interest in a soft reset, meaning we will be updating Survival by the end of the month to incorporate these changes!
Stay on the lookout for future announcements concerning this update! We'll make a new post once we're ready to begin the soft reset. As of now, no changes have been made to the current Survival server.
Addressing concerns
We allowed players to submit concerns and feedback for the soft reset. Let's address those concerns!
- Community split
- One of the recurring concerns for the soft reset was the possibility of it creating a split in the player-base. To address this concern, players will be able to travel freely between the new worlds and the old worlds. While inventories will not transfer between the old and new worlds, there won't be an impact for players who want to play in both worlds.
- Reset frequency
- Though this is not a full reset, we asked players how often full resets should occur on Survival. The community consensus was that resets should occur approximately every 2 years.
- Scheduled resets
- Prism Party has not historically scheduled resets, and has only reset the world once a majority of players has expressed interest in doing so. Typically, worlds on Prism last 2 years before a reset is considered. As part of the upcoming Paragon update, Prism Party will likely move to a scheduled reset system, where a fixed date (likely 2 years after opening) is given as to when the world may reset. Since resets often occur around the 2 year mark anyway, providing a proper countdown will be more transparent for new players.
We understand this might seem like a deadline for the world once implemented, but we'll be open to expanding the countdown if a majority of players wish to not reset. In other words, we'll remain open to player feedback, even if a reset timer is visible. - Levels, McMMO, Jobs, and stats
- Levels, McMMO, Jobs, and other player statistics will not be reset as part of this update. Players who wish to have their statistics reset may request staff reset them manually.
- Item transfers
- When we performed our first reset, we had a series of "Transfer Events" where players could bring 9 items from the current world over to the old world. For all future resets, we will be returning this system. While this won't apply for this soft reset, it will apply in future for full resets.
