Elections is a custom plugin on Prism Party to manage mayoral elections for the Survival gamemode. Elections allow players to run for office by submitting a campaign on the Prism Party website or vote for candidates to represent the community as a Mayor of Spawnia.

Players elected Mayor can present up to three "promises" (oftentimes new server features, suggestions, or improvements) to Staff who then must implement the changes with oversight from the Mayor during their month-long tenure. Essentially, Elections give players a way to vote for the server features they are most interested in, while adding a mock-election system to increase community participation.

Other than the optional "Mayor" chat tag, Mayors do not possess any actual authority over the players they represent. Mayors are not Staff members and cannot make or enforce Rules without permission from Staff; The Elections plugin—and role of Mayors, by extension—are just for fun, not competition.

Features[edit]

  • Allows players to set up campaigns and run for elections
  • Candidates can pick up to three update ideas which interest them
  • Allows players to vote for candidates whose selected promises they want added
  • Gives players an opportunity to add content alongside Staff

Requirements[edit]

  • Players must be at least level 1 in Survival.
  • Players must understand elections are for fun, and not a true position of power.
  • Players must have a Discord account linked with their in-game profile.
  • Players must have not have held the title of Mayor during the previous consecutive term.

How elections work[edit]

Server elections are split into three distinct phases. Each phase lasts about half a week, with the exception of the main tenure of the Mayor, which lasts for a full month. The current Mayor's tenure continues until the next Mayor is elected.

Campaigning Phase

The campaigning phase is the first phase of a new election cycle, and often takes place in the final week of a Mayor's tenure. During this phase, players interested in running for mayor can submit a new campaign application on the Prism Party website. This phase lasts for about half a week.

Voting Phase

The voting phase immediately follows the campaigning phase, lasting until the end of the week after the campaigning phase completes. During this phase, all players with an account on the Prism Party website are eligible to vote for the candidate who interests them the most.

Election phase

The final phase of an election cycle: During the election phase, the candidate with the most votes is pronounced the new Mayor for the month. The elected Mayor is then invited to an exclusive channel in the Discord where they are able to communicate directly with Staff concerning their campaign promises. While staff remain in control of the specifics of the update, the Mayor can oversee progress and suggest changes at any point.

Notes[edit]

  • All players are permitted to vote for Mayor, including those who are running for election that cycle.
  • If two or more candidates share the same major promise and at least one minor promise, only the candidate who submitted their form first will be shown during the voting cycle.
  • The Mayor's bio information is taken from their in-game /bio settings.
